When my husband and I got married five years ago I (and we) planned out everything. We planned where we were getting married, what we would have catered, our decorations, colors, guests, everything! I pretty much spearheaded the favor table and maybe went overboard with cds of our wedding playlist, can cozies, and bags for donuts for guests to take home. Instead of a guestbook I suggested we had people write on a Jenga block so we could play Jenga and have fond memories of our wedding day with fun well wishes.
To be honest, we don’t really play Jenga and the thought of them tumbling gives me anxiety haha but I would play if I felt a deep desire. We had leftover blocks that I have used here and there in small crafts but I was still left with a bunch!
Our five year anniversary was last week and about 5 days before it I realized I hadn’t made any effort of giving a gift or making plans. He hadn’t either so we were in the same busy parent raising a 2 year old boat. I looked up traditional gifts for year 5 and it was wood and daisies. So I looked up wood gift ideas and was inspired by wood vases.
I saw this one on Wayfair and was like, wow this is cool but I’m not paying $83 and figured it reminded me of those Jenga blocks I had. I decided to get creative!
Thus a new, ” I can make that Monday” post was born! It’s kind of exciting revitalizing a favorite blog post idea for me! So I’m going to try to do it more!
I grabbed all those leftover Jenga blocks, Gorilla glue, an old vase/mason jar and started working. Side note, I originally bought my blocks from the dollar store so this is a very inexpensive crafts! I chose Gorilla glue because it’s what I had. Originally I wanted to use hot glue but I have ran out of hot glue sticks.
I decided I liked the gap you see in the inspiration vases so I created that for mine which worked out so I could actually fit the vase inside of it.
I then took my Gorilla glue and placed dots on all the ends for the next layer of blocks
I continued to build up my blocks in the same fashion trying to get the next row to line up with previous rows so it wouldn’t be all wonky. For the most part I achieved this! Once they were all glued I could still easily move a piece or two while the glue hadn’t set yet.
I had an almost even number of darker blocks and lighter, pine blocks. I had one more pine piece and one less darker one so I wrote our date in brown permanent marker. If I had a wood burning kit I would have used that!
It took a few hours to dry but looked great on our table! I wasn’t able to make it to a florist to specifically get daisies but I did pick up some fake daisies at the craft store. I will admit, I’m loving that I can add fresh flowers since there is an actual vase inside of the wood block tower vase!
We enjoyed a delicious meal of chicken in a white wine sause, potatoes and mixed veggies. It’s similar to what we had on our wedding day 🙂
Isn’t that cozie so cute?! Also we got that Niagara cup while on our first anniversary. I’m sure my husband picked it out of the cupboard at random but I’m sure it was meant to be. Just like us!
I hope you enjoyed this long overdue, “I can make that Monday” post! If you found it helpful or entertaining let me know! You can help keep this blog ad free by buying me a coffee. I really appreciate everyone who has already supported me by doing so or sharing a post or liking something on instagram and facebook. If we aren’t already friends on socials, don’t hesitate!
