In today’s post I’m going to try to describe in the best detail I can of what we did. I can more easily share with you where I got some of my materials! This post contains some affiliate links. We may receive a small commission if you click on the link and make a purchase.
Our swivel tongue jack was pretty rusted and it was hard to use because of this rust. I was able to find a new swivel tongue jack on Amazon. and it worked and is still working great!
Fulton TJ12000101 Swivel Trailer Tongue Jack, 1200 Lbs. Capacity
My dad was able to remove the old one and install this new one in under 2 hours.
Other than the fact that it was easy to install with the bolts and plate that was included in the kit, I love how it easily snaps into place once we have the trailer hooked up to the hitch! Just don’t forget to raise that jack once you’re hooked up, haha – well you’ll make a lot of noise and figure it out pretty fast.
For changing the tires to a lug nut system, I unfortunately don’t really know what my dad did in any detail, but I have pictures of it and I’m glad that we can now easily change a tire if we need to! I feel like he added bolts – maybe actual lug nuts! And that allows us to put the tire on just like how we know to do on a vehicle.
I also made a spare tire cover! This tire cover hasn’t held up SUPER well over the last three years, mostly it’s faded a lot, but I made it out of a tablecloth and it didn’t cost much! To make one for your camper it’s as easy as getting a large tablecloth, laying your tire onto the table cloth and drawing the circle around it – leaving room for seaming, and then either doing math and figuring out how wide and long you need the part that goes around the tread, or you can mark a point on the tire – like with chalk – and then roll the tire until you have enough to cover the sides! Also make it wide enough to create a casing on one side. Fold in 1-2″ of one side (along the longest part) of your long piece, this is creating your casing, sew. Then take the non sewed side of your long piece and sew it to your circle. Now using a safety pin and string, thread in your string inside the casing. Now when you put your tire cover on you can tie it closed on the inside!
For the most part, that is our camper! Next week I’ll share all of our before and afters!! How have you guys liked the Camper Monday series? Let me know in the comments if you have any questions!
