Don’t y’all hate when you go to grab a towel off the oven handle and it slips to the ground. Ugh. Well no more! With this quick tutorial and low cost supplies from Dollar Tree you can make yourself a stack of oven towels ready for all your drying needs and they won’t slip to the floor!

Project Time: About 10 minutes per oven towel

At my Dollar Tree I was able to get packs of 2 of the pot holders for $1 and the dish towels were all $1 a piece. So for $1.50 and a button I could make one oven towel! I had buttons in my stash of buttons, but any button that is about the size of a quarter would work! You just need it to be able to close with the loop on the pot holder. Also, I recommend pre-washing all of your materials so when you go to wash them after use they won’t shrink up weird!

After your materials are washed you’ll simply fold the towel into thirds so it matches the width of your pot holder. I liked making sure it looked like this before pinning. Wrong side of potholder up, and right side of towel facing up. I also cut off the tag.

There is all kinds of ways to make sure you’re lining your pot holder so it’s in the center. You can fold it over so the pot holder is in the middle or you can fold it like you’ve already sewn it and pinch, then pin there. I preferred this second method.

Once you have your potholder in the right place, pin it in place! I liked pinning on both sides and then pinning a pin in the middle so I would have a reference of where I’d like to sew.

Now take this to your sewing machine and sew your straight line! You can also sew this by hand since it’s really a small project! I had to do that on one oven towel because it broke one needle (it was getting pretty old) and I was jamming up on the new one. I later realized the problem was that I needed to increase my stitch length to accommodate the thickness of that specific towel.

See the light pink thread? Haha, definitely hand sewn! It worked though!

The next step is to sew on your button!

You’re done! Repeat this process for however many you’d like! This is a quick and inexpensive gift that anyone (who uses hand towels and hangs them on the oven handle) will love!

I hope y’all are enjoying the Handmade Holiday series as much as I have enjoyed making it!

See ya tomorrow!
