Okay so I’ve always wanted to know how to cut glass and make my glass bottles and jars be repurposed into vases and candles. Enter a glass cutter! This page contains affiliate links to products. We may receive a commission for purchases made through these links.

Bottle Cutter & Glass Cutter Bundle – DIY Machine for Cutting Wine, Beer, Liquor, Whiskey, Alcohol, Champagne, Water or Soda Round Bottles & Mason Jars to Craft Glasses – Accessories Tool Kit, Gloves

So we followed the instructions and safety precautions! Always wearing gloves. This kit was great for the bottles because we could just roll the bottles and score where we wanted our cut or break to be!

When following the instructions it says to only score the glass one time. We tried the Pace jar and scored it three times haha. There were repercussions to this.

The next step is to alternate the glass in hot and cold water. We didn’t have a thermometer so we had to just hope and guess we were getting it right. For the hot water it was best to have a mildly boiling pot and for the cold water we just had a pitcher of tap water with ice. Pro tip put your pitcher of ice water in the freezer in between glass cuts if you’re doing it one by one like we did. We also found we had to do this for several minutes back and forth. It could be because we didn’t measure the temperature. For the taller bottles like the Jarritos, we used a really tall thermos that could hold the hot water since we couldn’t get the score to touch the water in the pot. Two pitchers would be really helpful!

After your glass breaks at your score line you’re suppose to use this sandpaper that they provide and smooth it out so no one will get cut. Our cuts at first were pretty pathetic and jagged because we had multiple scores. Our best cuts came after some practice and with one score. Also you don’t have to press super hard when scoring your glass.

Because some of our edges were so uneven (scoring three times) we had more success with a Dremel. We borrowed my father in laws Dremel but I’ve already put one in my wish list because it was SO EASY to clean up these edges with a sanding bit! If you are cutting your bottles with one score and have a fairly even cut you can also easily sand the edges with the sand paper they provide in the kit!

Overall I’m extremely pleased with these vases!

I love this little succulent planter!!

Also we have fake plants because someone doesn’t stay off the table!

Be sure to check back tomorrow because I’ll show you how I make candles using the other bottles we cut!!
