You know what I hate? Dry lips. Dry hands. Dry cuticles. Dry skin in general. It hurts and it’s annoying. I live in Southwest Ohio and our summers are very humid. Yet, I still find myself suffering from dry skin even then. So for me it isn’t always a time of year thing, but it is worse in these drier months. I also work in a place that has a lot of exposed cardboard boxes so the air is even DRIER. I mean, what am I doing to myself and how am I gonna fix it?

Other than just always having lotion on hand I always try to have a chapstick or lip balm also. That’s why I started making chapstick cozies. But I’ve always wanted to learn how to make lip balm for myself and I finally did it and I’m 100% obsessed. And the best news of all, it took like less than 10 minutes start to finish and I only used THREE ingredients!

Supply list: Coconut oil, beeswax, peppermint oil – this is optional. You can also use any flavor of essential oil that you’d like but I wanted a minty lip balm. You’ll also want either little jars or chapstick tubes. I *almost* did tubes but I had read that someone was using this for their cuticles so I opted for the jars so I could do that same. I didn’t know how much that was about to change my life. I bought these little jars because I wanted pink tops. I am an Amazon Associate and any qualifying purchase made from a link provided I will receive a small commission. This doesn’t increase the products for you.

I prepared everything ahead of time because once the coconut oil and beeswax is melted it actually starts to cool pretty fast. But don’t let that fool you, it’s still hot once you take it out of the microwave.

On a rag or paper towels lay out your jars – or have your tubes ready to go. In a glass measuring cup, or a microwave safe dish that can easily pour, put in 5 tablespoons of coconut oil and 1 beeswax bar (3 tablespoons). Place this in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir. Continue until contents are melted. Once fully melted add your essential oil. I added 12 drops of peppermint oil but you could do anything from 10-15 depending on how strong you want the scent.

That’s it! Once it’s cooled down you’re ready to party! I keep my lip balm on me while I’m at work and I’ll put it on my cuticles after washing my hands. I’ll even occasionally put it on the backs of my hands and it’s an instant relief to that dry, pulling, and painful sensation of dry skin from washing my hands all day. I can’t say enough how much this is changing my life. It is also a wonderful lip balm and I don’t find that I have to reapply several times a day, which is nice when I’m wearing a mask and working on not touching my face all day!

I used circle stickers I already had on hand because I use them when shipping out orders. This gift will pair great with some other handmade holiday gifts I have in the works. You can make a little basket with candles, rice heat packs, Coffee scrub, lotion, body wash, hot chocolate bombs, etc and have a whole rest and relaxation theme!

Be sure to tag us on socials with the lip balms you make!! I have loved seeing everyone’s creations from last year and from the Summer Camp Craft series we had over the summer! So much creativity out there! If you loved this post please share it with a friend and consider, “buying me a coffee” which helps keep the website ad free!
