Welcome to Adult Summer Camp! We will be focusing on a small area of summer camp activities: crafts and drinking! I realize that in traditional, children summer camp, they have crafts and snacks, but we’re doing this as an adult take! I have included mocktails for each day also, so if you’re pregnant, or not really a drinker, OR if your kids are wanting a fancy drink too, no worries, I’ve hooked y’all up! Let’s get started!

Today’s Summer Camp Craft is Mosaic Tiles! Also could be referred to as stepping stones. I will include what you should get to complete this craft along with what did and didn’t work for us! I am an Amazon Affiliate so any qualifying purchase made from a link on here I’ll receive a small commission.

You will need:
Quikrete – or I do suggest getting ACTUAL stepping stone mix you can read on as to why a little later on.
Tiles – Found mine on Amazon

Mix of pink and green – 300g Irregular Shape Mosaic Tiles Mixed Color Ceramic Mosaic for DIY Crafts Picture Frames Plates Flowerpots Vases Cups Mosaic Decoration Making (Pink Green)
Blue Glitter/sparkle tiles – Yoption Mosaic Tiles Bulk, Mixed Color Assorted Square and Triangle Glitter Crystal Glass Mosaic Tiles for Home Decoration or DIY Crafts 200g
Pebbles – found mine at Dollar Tree
Shells – found mine at Dollar Tree
Pie pans – found mine, 3 pack, at Dollar Tree
Plastic knife or something else to use to mix up the concrete
Plastic cups for pouring in concrete and water
Tablecloth – so you don’t ruin your table!

First step is to layout your tablecloth and then gather your supplies. You can also use other items for your stepping stone, these are just what I picked up! Next you’ll start to lay out your design. I suggest either using the foil top that might have come with your pie pan or you can use a paper plate. This helps you change your mind about how you’re going to design it without risking it being set in *literal* stone. HA – see what I did there?

Once you’ve nailed your design it’s time to start mixing in your concrete to your pie pan. Honestly a great texture to achieve is a peanut butter consistency. The Quikrete we were using was VERY rocky. I ended up picking out some of the rocks of my first stepping stone and then for my second I picked out A LOT of rocks and waited to add water until I thought I had enough. Which brings me to the next step.

Side Note: If you’re using Quikrete you’ll want to follow their instructions. We just added a scoop of concrete mix and then added small amounts of water at a time so to not over due it on the concrete mixing! Once you’ve achieved your desired level of concrete in your pie pan go ahead and start placing your tiles and pebbles onto your Stepping stone. Then it’s just waiting for it to cure before you can remove it! It took a few hours, maybe 3-5 before ours were cured enough to remove from the pie pans!

There ya go! Pretty easy craft! To make this a part of Adult Summer I’ve promised a drink and we’re starting off simple on this one also! Vodka Soda. The mocktail is just Sprite, but before you get too bummed I am recommending some fun ice cubes! Here are ice cube trays that are similar to what I used, I like that they have a top to them so you can easily stack them in the freezer!

To make color ice cubes just make water with some food dye and then pour into your ice cube mold. I found having a small cube mold (like the one above) I could have multiple colors in my drink!

For the Vodka Soda I suggest Club Soda, I did forget to pick up some for myself so I did end up making a Vodka Sprite with the color cubes. I did include some ice cubes that I had used fruit juice to make as well! And actually it was V8 so I’m practically drinking a healthy drink with vegetables! I used V8 strawberry banana and V8 Peach Mango. For the mocktail version of this drink I would follow the instructions below and just leave out the vodka!

Mosaic Stone Vodka Soda

Serving Size:
1
Time:
5 minutes
Difficulty:
Easy

Ingredients

  • Vodka
  • Club Soda
  • Color Ice Cubes
  • Lime to garnish

Directions

  1. Freeze some small cube ice cubes using water that has been dyed with food coloring.
  2. Fill tall glass with colored ice cubes
  3. Pour in 1-2 oz of Vodka over the ice
  4. Fill to the top with Club Soda
  5. Garnish with a lime wedge

Don’t the color cubes remind you of the tiles you use in your stepping stone?! Yeah, I thought so too, that’s why I chose it!
