Today’s inspiration is adorable!!!
I mean, how can one resist! My final pillow isn’t an exact replica and it isn’t as fuzzy as the example of my inspiration but, it’s fun to be inspired and see what you can make! I’ve included a free downloadable pdf to get the main components of this pillow, but you can also just cut out the general shapes and make it your own! You’ll find the PDF link at the end!
Above is all the pieces cut out but nothing was sewn yet. I used a permanent marker to make eyelashes, a smile, and the spice spots in the “whipped cream” I also used a permanent marker for the face of the pumpkin in the whipped cream and a red marker to make the marks to emphasize the pumpkin!
*Also to note since it isn’t obvious in the above picture, you’ll want to have four brown strips for the cinnamon sticks because you will stack two of them to create two thick cinnamon sticks!
To start you’ll want to get the following materials: 1/4 yard of orange fleece, 1/4 yard of white fleece, 1/4 yard of yellow – or any color you want the “paper” of your coffee to be, one small sheet of orange felt, and a small amount of dark brown fleece- you could use felt here if you don’t want to buy a large amount of dark brown. I think the minimum at JoAnns is 2 or 4 inches, which actually would be enough! You’ll also need poly-fil.
Once everything was cut out I was worried about how to keep all the small components pinned in place so I hot glued them in place! This will not hold up long term but would be enough for you to sew it by hand or with your machine. So here is where I’ll say, do as I say, not as I did! At the time of this writing I still haven’t sewn the little bits in place, and that’s absolutely a choking hazard so you’ll want to sew those in place before you finish!
I sewed around the edge of the yellow “paper” then I sewed the bottom of the whipped cream to the top of the cup. Then I took my four cut outs of the cinnamon sticks and stacked them so I had a double layer of the fleece that created two cinnamon sticks! I sewed around the edges of this- I didn’t flip it inside out or anything. The beauty of fleece is the edges don’t fray!
Once the top was all sewn into place you’ll want to cut out the back piece. I did this by laying the top on some orange fleece and cutting out around it. Then I pinned the two together and sewed! Make sure to leave a hole for stuffing. I chose to leave the bottom open.
I sewed the bottom shut and decided I was done! Of course I still need to sew the little bits on so they don’t come off. One reason is I don’t want a one eyed pumpkin spice cutie. Another reason is I have animals and a little one in my home and they could easily choke on these small pieces and I’d rather that not happen!
I hope you guys loved this tutorial! Below you’ll find the PDF download if you’d like to use that for your pieces!
