If y’all have been around for a minute you know that I LOVE a good garland. I also love making pom poms for garlands. This Fourth of July Summer garland doesn’t disappoint! This fun garland was born from a stash buster Saturday. Follow me on Instagram or facebook to see those days in real time action!
This garland is going to look great on your mantle or above a door frame. Maybe you always wrap garland around a banister? Either way it’s a low cost and fun way to bring some cheer to your living area.
First I started off with a bunch of popsicles and I broke them in half. I didn’t worry about making them perfect because the different lengths were going to add character to my popsicles. After they were broken I actually filed them with a nail file because that’s what I had… on hand… haha but it was pretty effective in making the sharp edge duller and smooth so I felt more comfortable handling it.
Next step was to glue the popsicle sticks together to form popsicles. I used regular elmers glue but you could also use wood glue, tacky glue, etc. To glue the back of the popsicle stick to the popsicle shape I actually cut out a little bit of cardboard from an empty waffle box. I love any opportunity to use my recycling in a project! This also helped keep all the pieces together.
Next up I painted two red and two blue. If I were going for a larger garland I could easily see me doubling this to 8 or more popsicles. I also thought it’d be cute to paint them wild designs but kept with a simple theme.
While that dried I went ahead and started to make my pom poms. Since I wanted a red, white and blue theme I made 5 pom poms out of white yarn.
I looped my pom poms onto the yarn and glued some yarn to the popsicles and voila! I have a cute summer garland ready for the holiday!
We have banners and garland all over my house most of the time so this was a fun addition to the bunch for summer time! How big will you guys make your garlands? Please keep sharing your wonderful creations with me! Y’all are so inspiring!
